I haven't been so upset about the death of a public figure in quite some time. Peter Jennings was, for me, THE example of what an anchor should be. His stewardship of the news helped bring important stories and information to people, regardless of whether the public wanted to hear about it or the suits thought it would "sell." In an era of news as entertainment, propaganda masquerading as news (even when it's "fair and balanced"), and a general decline in people even paying attention to the news, Peter Jennings was a lifeline back to a time when being well-informed was valued and people aspired to a greater degree of knowledge about the world.
